Created one, cold and foggy night on Partington Ridge in Big Sur, California. Drawing the mists and shadows into this oft sunny Nilsson song, we perform her with reverence for Harry, and a big nod to Badalamenti & Cruise. Perhaps you can hear, for the first time, the disillusionment, confusion, and creeping loneliness which was always lurking just beneath the breezy surface of this beautiful tune.
Recorded on 8-track tape in 2015 when we (Molly & Fletcher) shared a decomposing-school-bus studio, on a shady piece of mountainside property, surrounded by “dark watchers”. Lynch himself couldn’t have asked for spookier inspiration. This mini recording session was the preamble to the work that we did together to create the vocal arrangements for “Cold Spring” my (Fletcher Tucker) recent LP of droney, place-based, eco-folk songs.
